Spanning a time period from thousands of years ago to right up to the start of the original film, this graphic novel epic will tell the definitive origin of Dark Crystal, under the supervision of The Jim Henson Company and The Dark Crystal concept designer Brian Froud.
In this volume, readers will see the story behind the cracking of the crystal.
Synopsis from Goodreads
Jim Henson was a genius, plain and simple. He played a huge role in my childhood, and it means a lot to me to see that his legacy is living on. Even though he didn't actually write these graphic novels, or have a say in their creation in any way, I know that he would have been proud. Anyone who grew up watching Sesame Street, The Muppet Show or Labyrinth, should definitely read these, to relive just a piece of Jim Henson's vision.
This volume brings together all the shorter stories from volume 1, weaving them into the beginnings of a larger story. Brian Froud's amazing artwork is really what makes this worthwhile. Some of you may be familiar with his Pressed Fairy Book? He is a genius in his own right. Together with Dysart and Sheikman, the team has created something great.
The best part of this volume was David Odell's words at the end, describing what it was like working with Jim Henson, creating the Dark Crystal and the world and characters of Thra. Complete with B&W photographs, I am able to realize exactly how much work went into it all. I am looking forward to volume 3. A small part of me is secretly holding on to the dream that the graphic novels with remind us all how much we loved The Dark Crystal, and they will finally move ahead to film the sequel.
